Eli Zaret started his career in 1974 as the first FM sportscaster in Detroit. His gravelly voice and rock-and-roll style, first heard on WABX-FM, created a stir in the staid world of sports casting.
He went on to host the first ever nationally syndicated FM sports cast and became the lead television sports anchor at WDIV-TV in Detroit and WABC-TV in New York. Along the way, Zaret hosted the first locally produced half-hour baseball pre-game show in America. He also hosted the Emmy-winning Eli and Denny Show on WJBK-TV with former 31-game winner Denny McLain. In 1997 he created the LockerRoom show on WDIV with Kirk Gibson and Gary Danielson that ran on both radio (WXYT-AM) and television until 2004.
In 2003, Zaret published his first book, “84 -- The Last of the Great Tigers, Untold Stories from an amazing season.”
He followed that in 2004 with “Blue Collar Blueprint – How the Pistons Constructed their Championship Formula.”
